After Wednesday’s incident with my car I figured it’s time for a change. Maybe a change bigger and more significant than a different employer.
A guy I used to work with last year (Eric) moved across state line just under an hour away. The town is small enough to be friendly and safe yet big enough to provide what we need. The peace and quiet is very welcome every time we go visit friends. Interestingly it’s still an hour from old friends to the west where I grew up and still do my hunting.
Eric went to work at a heavy duty truck shop. He was out of his element having only history of cars but the team there coached him and took extra care to make sure he was happy. The owner has a couple extra business ventures next door. A U-Haul rental and a gun shop. Hmmmmm
well, Friday night Eric called me. His boss is looking for a parts counter guy . The position will quickly evolve into parts manager as the current parts manager is moving up in the company.
I told him I Was interested, within 15 minutes I got calls from owner, his wife and the parts manager. I have an interview Saturday morning. They are looking for a house for us to rent and mentioned we can use a truck to do the move.

Work at the new job is great. Not a single negative thought or action from anyone. I’m learning faster than they expected
Monday morning commute was scary. Glare ice with 35mph side winds. The morning meeting we were talking about it. At lunch time the owner told me he ordered a set of studded snow tires for my Trailturd. That flat out blew me away. They are willing to spend $600 to make sure I was safe and can get to work on time. Old boss would have shrugged his shoulder and said “tough shit”
